FAQ

01

Tree buying and safety tips

  • Run your fingers along the needles and give the tree a shake. If the tree is fresh, the needles should be pliable and not much should fall off.
  • For a cut tree, make sure the base of the tree is straight and at least six inches long, so it will fit easily into the tree stand.
  • Never place your tree near a heat source, such as a fireplace or portable heater.
  • Trim the lower branches to avoid eye injuries if you have small children or pets.
  • Turn off tree lights when you go to bed or leave the house.

An artificial Christmas Tree looks good too. Why should I buy a real Christmas Tree

A better way to start or continue a Family Christmas tradition is to look for the perfect "Tree of Life". Not like an artificial tree, a real tree is a renewable resource, 100% bio-degradable, carbon neutral and often providing suitable habitat for wildlife. In addition, a natural tree will generate less greenhouse gases whereas the artificial tree will produce more. Not to mention that the scent of the conifers is unmistakably associated with Christmas and will stay with you all year long.

03

Why does UBC Christmas Tree Farm offer cut trees?

We cannot provide a live potted tree that is larger than 3 feet because they are too heavy to transport for both our tree farm and customers. Our cut trees are greener than others because they are grown locally at UBC Farm.

04

How do I make the Payment?

Your payment can be made at the day when you pick up/u-cut your tree. Please note that we only accept cash.

05

How long will my cut tree last?

It depends on the type of tree, how dry the room is, where your tree is placed and how well you keep your tree watered. With good tree care, a cut tree usually can last three weeks or more.

How is the size of the tree measured?

All trees are measured from the base of the soil line to the top of the tree.

Do you provide saws and other cutting tools? What if our family needs help cutting our own trees?

Yes, we do. You are also welcome to bring your own tools. Also, our volunteer will be happy to help upon your request.
What is the retail price of Christmas trees based on? Why does a live tree cost more than a cut tree?

Year round tree care duties including weeding, pruning, irrigation and fertilizer. Tree pots, pot cover and labour are also included in the price you pay for your Christmas tree. Maintaining a live tree requires more work compared to a cut tree.

09

Does UBC Christmas Tree Farm bale cut trees or provide tree bags for potted trees?

Unfortunately, our farm does not bale trees or provide tree bags this year. But we will provide twine for you to bale your cut tree, and burlap to transport your potted tree.
